Will the Chiefs trade Tyler Thigpen?

Thigpen will never be anything more than a backup QB. He has poor accuracy and his only true skill is survival behind a terrible line. Honestly I see that as nothing other than a stop gap when you have no other choices. Yes he did do ok last year but don't forget we were still a 2-14 team.

People jumping on the Thigpen bandwagon just goes to show how passionate KC fans can be while not knowing anything about the actual sport. Kinda sad really.

I agree with TallPaul. The latest rumour from NFL.com alleges Jacksonville offered Pioli a 5th round pick for Thigpen. Pioli wants a 3rd. I say if Jacksonville wants Tyler "Wildcat" Thigpen and will give up a 4th for him....Do it!!! Pioli is a STUD and that would be be a steal for our Chiefs!

T-squared would be the only one that would get us anything in return...it'd be nice to pull the trigger on a trade. 5th rounder sounds good to me...why not make that deal? Do they really think he's worth more than a 5th?

Brodie is too injury prone to garner any kind of a deal. Not sure on the new guy from NE's practice squad or whatever. I assume that since they brought him in Haley and Pioli like him better than one of the QB's that were on our roster at that time, so I gotta think he'll stick. Thig is the logical choice for a trade or cut. And certainly, if you can get something for him, you would trade rater than cut him.

To those that think Thig is the next coming of Steve Young, Rich Gannon, Kordel Stewart or some other athletic, running quarterback...let it go. He's a life-time 3rd stringer, 2nd string at best. If you can't pass out of an under-center formation, you will not start in the NFL. That's the cold truth. Yes, he's atheletically gifted, but give me a plodder in the backfield that has a laser sight and a canon arm any day over a "happy feet" scrambler. Rich and K-Stew and those guys could throw, along with running, the football. And they could do it from under center.

John, Chiefs63 Take a look at Cassel's #'s from last year & you'll find that he started to win & play better when the Pats went to the spread.The diff is that he can take a snap under center but not with alot of luck.Their o-line was almost as bad as ours.(47 sacks ?).Thigpen may not be the best right now but has more upside than any QB on the team.Cassel & Thigpen are mirror images of each other.Cassel had a much better cast & a "D".Brodie cannot stay healthy & Gueterriz is the wildcard.Look for Croyle to be cut.

I played two of the four years in junoir high and started one of them in Wyandote co before I crossed the state line into Miss. and I was a QB!Our junoir high QB caoch taught us to always fad to your throwing arm side and then throw it back to the left or your bad side at the last secund.It always usually worked. At least in the frist part of two or three sets of downs. He would have us QBs trade off becuase one of us was left handed and the other had a right hand.

I lost my strating job because the coachs son said he was ambedixtrous like Thigey is. Thats why I think he goes both ways and should strat at QB.

Tyler is our third string QB because he's the third best QB on the team. If you can get a 4th round pick for him, you trade him. He seems like a good kid. And I like his mobility. Plays with a lot of heart. But he's still the third string QB for a reason.

As a 35+ year Chiefs fan I can not fathom the idea of trading away a young mobile & athletic QB in the mold of Tyler Thigpen...can you say Rich Gannon, Joe Horn,Ryan Lilja,Donnie Edwards,Kawika Mitchell ??? or some of us who care to remember NT Curly Culp! You can not let your home grown talented players be allowed to walk. Plain & simple the guy can move and direct an NFL offense in a league that has suddenly fallen in love with running the "Wildcat" which is now in vogue and here to stay. The 2008 Chiefs squad could have easily stumbled to a .500 record last year with a top 15 NFL defense and some tighter offensive line play (run for your life Tyler) and late game stamina.Tyler plays with a heart the size of South Carolina and best of all can literally get crushed on one play,peel himself off the mat and come back on the next play and throw a touchdown!! Hopefully all this media propaganda is just to light a fire under all our QB's as a group...Parcells 101.... but this guy can flat out play,even Stevie Wonder can see that!

mutt ca$$el is VERY overrated. Tyler Thigpen is the far better QB -- not that the current KC mismanagment team of toad and scudd would understand.

Which is exactly why we should trade him NOW. His trade value will never be as high as it is now after the greatest season of (probably) his career.

I like the guy's story, but he's not a franchise quarterback.

The reason why he had some success last year (touchdowns, rushing yards, and 1 win...ONE WIN!) is because he would lock-onto Tony G and run-around until TG was open. He would just stare-down #88 play after play after play. And yes, often times -- since Tony G is great -- this would work out for him. But it never resulted in a win except for his win against the Raiders.

"Thiggy" has what they call 'happy feet'. He is too quick to leave the pocket and will often times throw the ball without having his feet set because he's more worried about where to run than his throwing-form. Poor footwork also means that he cannot throw the deep out routes consistently because he doesn't get set correctly.

He also doesn't make good down-field reads. He may have thrown 18 touchdowns last year but he also threw 12 picks -- not a good ratio. He also fumbled the ball 6 times, often when he left the pocket pre-maturely. 21 touchdowns, 18 ints/fums = 1 win.

Best argument I've heard for why we should keep him is that our offensive line sucks and we need someone who can run-around. But that to me is like buying a bike because your car needs an oil-change. Fix the offensive line. Don't bet the farm on a QB who is at his best when your line sucks.

So Thigpen fans -- watch some film before you post. I'm sorry you bought his jersey but the guy is not the future of the Chiefs. So just calm down.

In my opinion Thigpen should at least be the backup quarterback, not Croyle, Croyle sucks crap. where was Croyle when Thigpen was playing 11 games? Oh, that's right, injured, at least thigpen has the durability to play in the NFL, and he would make a strong solid backup for Matt Cassel, I say they should dump Croyle on the streets, and if they are forced to trade Thigpen I say they should trade him to help bolster the offensive line, along with the defense, or at least a 2nd or 3rd round pick, since Thigpen is worth at least that much.

The Chiefs should get what they can for him and deal him. He does not fit into the future plans of this organization. Whatever draft pick compensation received can be used in the future to help build this football team.

If trading Tyler Thigpen makes you lose what respect you had left for Pioli, you probably should find another team to route for because this will be his m.o. If a player does not fit into the plans of the team, they will be traded or cut.

I will lose what little repect I have for Pioli if it happens. Thigpen would be the starter by week 8. Chiefs suck

Thigpen is as good as gone. Welcome to "The Patriot Way" Chiefs Nation. Thigpen's a guy that most likely won't equate into the Chiefs' long term goals, so Pioli is looking to get something for him before he sits on the bench and collects dust. The Pats were/are notorious for doing this. If KC can secure a 3rd or 4th rounder for him, I'd count that as a good deal... unless of course Cassel gets hurt. We all know that if Cassel goes down, Croyle will likely be joining him in the training room within a few plays.

A few months ago everyone was on the T. pigpin bandwagon. Now everyone sees him like a bad Michael Vick. Moble - yes--- NFL QB--- no.

Was it not just a few months ago that everyone said trade Croyle while he still has two legs to stand on. Were are you player haters now?
I said in June this would happen and everyone on this site told me to shut the hell up, so HAHA.
BC is the best QB on the team. When Matt gets hurt (and he will) Croyle will be there.

I'm a Cassell fan. But I really like Tyler Thigpen. I hope we trade him somewhere where he can get a shot a starting position cause he's a fun player to watch with a great story.

Also, the Jag's are very deep on the o-line so here's hoping that we come out of it with more people to compete for the starting RT position.

If Pioli gets more than a fifth round pick for Thigpen...then Pioli is a stud. The last preseason game seemed to show that the Chiefs might have some depth at backup QB. So getting something for one of them would be a good thing.
