How about we protect this multi-million, multi-year QB? Shouldn't the Chiefs highest priority now be to sign the best available O-linemen to keep the most-sacked-QB-in-the-league-last-year healthy? Forget about targets to throw to, no one ever completed a pass from their backside.

No way do I want a wide receiver on my team who shot himself in the leg. He didn't do this on a hunting trip or at a shooting range, but at a dance club. If we know Pioli's reputation as well as we think we do, there's no way he wants this joker on the Chiefs either. Give me a break, the Chiefs have enough problems without "trigger-finger" on our team.

Pioli has a plan, cassell is in his plan. rest assured the offense will be built around cassell's strengths. or his deal could provide a better trade friendly contract for his plan. either way, rome wasnt built in a day. and either way again, cassell will do just fine. i have seen him during training camps, practice's and all his games last season. he will be the real deal...crap, he beat the chiefs in a panic after brady went down and then almost passed for 4,000 yards.

I'm surprised Cassel took this deal. If it is as reported, $28M guaranteed, it doesn't make a lot of sense for him. He was guaranteed $14M just for this year. Now he's only guaranteed $28 over 6 years?

If that rumor is correct, that will give us another 5 million in cap space for this year. I'm still hoping that management decides to spend the money this year instead of just sitting on it. I know that we dont want to lock guys up to bad multiyear deals. But why not through some of those millions at a veteran for a one year deal? This isnt Verizon, we dont get rollover money. If we dont use the cap space this year it just goes into the Owner's pocket. If there is any player out there (Willie McGinest or Derrick Brooks for example) that would be any sort of improvement at all over a player that we have, why not sign him to a one year deal?

I saw the guy last year in every game and once he settled down, he looked like a taller, more mobile Tom Brady. He has a strong arm and is accurate. He'll occasionally underperform, but they all will once in a while.
I'd love to see them make an adjustment or two to the o-line, but I guess at 6-years, they may let it go as is and focus on it next year.

This really means this and only this: Matt was officially brainwashed into believing that the Chiefs will be building a real, live offensive line in the next year or two to protect the QB.

No NFL QB with high stock value signs a deal like this unless the organization makes a commitment within some kind of sales pitch to build the offensive line to give the QB a fighting chance.

Of course we'll see what the terms are, but it's good that they got this done before camp. Although I would not have been surprised (due to the 1 year money they had to pay - $15M) if they had waited until after the season to get him signed since it would be unlikely he would be getting much more than $15M per. I think this is more about the years than the money per year (especially since the CBA is still up in the air).

Here's hoping that this trade comes out similar to Tampa Bay trading Steve Young to San Fran or Atlanta trading Farve to GB.

Finding and signing a talented players is what your suppose to do. Wether Cassel works out or not signing him to a multi-year contract was the right play.

Reading between the lines this may also indicate (to us optimist) that KC really does have a multi-year plan. They didn't need the cap space this will theoretically free up.

It would seem like Pioli and Haley really like this guy a lot. Here's hoping he is the long term answer. He seems to have all of the talent in the world but until we see him play with this roster, who knows?
