The Chiefs agreed to contract terms with wide receiver C.J. Jones.
The 5-feet-11, 195-pound Jones has played in the NFL with Cleveland in 2003 and New England last year. He spent time on the practice squad for both teams and also went to camp with Seattle in 2006.
Jones caught 10 passes for 118 yards and a touchdown in NFL Europe in 2006 while playing for Berlin.
Jones played at Garden City Community College in Kansas and at Iowa.

Before the news of Crabtree's foot injury he seemed like an option the chiefs might consider (maybe not at #3, but as a draft day shuffle in the top 10). I keep thinking that the Chiefs are still hunting for a WR to take the pressure off of Bowe. Jones doesn't fit that profile (nothing against the guy). Does anyone think that Crabtree is that plan?

I agree - how about signing someone who wasn't involved in the New England system for once in my life.
I'm not hating, I swear. The Cassel and Vrabel trade was awesome, and I hope we have a true quarterback competition.
But we need to make some transactions that are not Patriot related. That's when we'll know Pioli is truly on his way. But picking up unknown NE players is starting to make me nervous...

I'd imagine he is a special teams guy.
I don't know this player, I don't know his skills, and it really doesn't matter. I don't get paid to evaluate talent. The guys over at Arrowhead do.
If he is fast and can catch the ball then he brings competition to the rest of the group. That much I do know. Maybe he is good, maybe he stinks. But not every player we sign is intended to be the answer to needing a #2 WR. Some are good backups and every team needs depth.
Give the guy a chance. Give the process a chance.

Our reluctance to bring in a high-priced FA Wideout leads me to believe we are either working a trade, or have our sights set on someone in the upcoming draft....
Boldin, now that would be impressive. Matt would have a receiving Corps equal to that in NE with the best TE in the game to boot.
It does seem likely that a plan is still being discussed at Arrowhead in regard to landing a solid WR. We have too much money available to ignore WR (and OL of course).
I can be patient about it now that I have seen how serious Pioli was about our QB needs. I am looking forward to the deals that eventually unfold for a solid WR and OL pick up.

While perhaps a bit premature, questions have to start being asked why at least one top tier FA hasn't signed. More concerning is that no top tier FA has even visited KC over the last week. The list of vistiting FA, assuming the Star is correct,looks highly disappointing. This is particularly concerning with so many key holes to fill.
It is plausible to suggest Haley's arrogance and condecending reputation previous to and solidified by the Waters run in have had a tangible affect on FA interest in KC.
Was on the Clark Hunt season ticket conference call 8 days ago and he indicated the Chiefs wld be quite active in FA. Still a long way to go but they better get busy otherwise all we'll wind up with is washed up 34 or 35 year olds or highly unproven wantobes like CJ Jones.
This is kind of a weird blog today. Half the people are complaining about about signing old guys and the other half wants to make a big splash by...signing an old guy.
At any rate, this appears to be a buyer's market this year. Look at some of the signings in baseball--way below what market value would have been last year. Maybe they're letting the prices fall. Or maybe not...some were calling to sign Ray Lewis, but look at the money he just got.
Others are whining about the "secrecy", which is really just a lack of leaks. Do you really want, say, Denver to know Pioli is negotiating with, say, Torry Holt and watch Denver swoop in with a contract? That's what Pioli did with the Cassel deal. Schefter is scooping everybody because he has built a network of agents to talk to. He's probably not getting anything from the teams.
Chill out people. I think your patience will be rewarded.
If Cassel and Vrabel had been free agents would you think differently? How many teams added a solid starting quarterback and a veteran linebacker in free agency so far? Trades or free agents sigings, who cares? They are still new players.

He led all Patriot receivers in the preason last year. Has had success at returning kicks (holds an Orange Bowl record for a 101 yard kickoff return for a TD against Southern Cal).
His cousin is Anquan Boldin.
He was added to the practice squad last year but ultimately replaced when the team signed KC Chief Maurice Price.
He has been in and out of football a couple of times over the past few years.
Read an article where Randy Moss was working with him A LOT on running his routes and teaching him how to use his speed to get separation.
Camp fodder at best, but perhaps Pioli believes he is an ascending talent ready to make a push as a slot receiver / kick returner in the NFL. Time will tell.

- so Price - who couldn't even make it in KC -goes to NE where the Patriots cut Jones...and now in '09 KC signs Jones hoping he will make our team - the one Price couldn't. And piolee who was in NE last year, & signed Price - who couldn't make the Chiefs- and then cut Jones -now resigns Jones for KC in hopes he'll make it here.

Tory Holt, Marvin Harrison, gee maybe we could still get Lynn Swann. We signed every old washed up player Carl Peterson could find. Give me a break. There is a reason those players are available. Give it a rest and let those who know what they are doing pick the talent. Whine about the roster when they report to camp if you want. Having $40 million available doesn't mean you blow it on tacos and has beens. Great strategy.

Why dose everyone want washed up old players. Tory Holt has two good years at best. The sooner chiefs fans realize that rebuilding takes time. The sooner they will start enjoying football again. Sit back and enjoy the ride.

Look. We'll never know. I like the new direction but I could be wrong. Something that I can say, that I know is NOT wrong, is that we can't change the past. We only have the future.
