for the same reasons you listed. HOWEVER, Holt has asked for his release from St. Louis and the Rams seem willing to accomodate him. Holt is 32 and is probably leaving (or has left) his prime but last year was the first time in a long time that he had less than 1,000 yards. Leadership wise he is the kind of veteran pressence that would do our WRs good and still good enough to draw coverage off Bowe and Tony G.

Man, I hope Scott grabs this guy the second he hits the market.

c'mon guys ... we all know they didn't make that trade with the idea that cassel would be the backup qb ... he's the man ... but thiggy is going to be far from just a clipboard holder ... he'll be involved in the offense in a wildcat situation, or spread out wide ... judging from haley's comments the other day, they like his athleticism and he'll be on the field and involved in the gameplan ... to which i say hurray!

Look at Thigpen's salary and Cassel's salary and tell everybody that you really think there will be a competion for the starter's job. Thigpen is the new official clip board holder.

Before I get to my subject let me say that Thigpen is getting paid next to nothing, so why not keep him on to be the backup QB.

What about trading Larry Johnson and our 3rd round pick to Arizona for Boldin and Edgerin James. They both want out of Arizona.

Why would anyone trade for a player that is either going to be retained or released? Nobody is going to give up a player or a draft pick for LJ. That would be stupid. Either the Chiefs will keep him and make him finish out his contract or they will outright release him. He isn't trade bait. The receiving team would have to take his contract. Uh, no thanks.

Why would anybody want James??? Boldin is not leaving and nobody in the NFL would want Larry Johnson........NOBODY!!!!

I understand everyone wanting to get rid of Larry. He hasn't shown us too much about his character to make us like him off the field. I also think he doesn't even TRY to be likeable anymore because he feels KC's fans can't stand him anyway. On an emotional level I'd say, "Yeah, get rid of him if he's a hemroid in the locker room and a scar on KC's reputation."

On a business level though... first of all, we're gonna pay out the nose for Larry anyway. We've hired Carthon who is good at connecting with disgruntled players. Hopefully he'll be able to connect with Larry in a way that a white Haley in tight pants and baggy hoodie can't. I don't mean that poorly. Let me explain.

I have a counter part in management here at work. The guys who tuck their shirts in, polish their cars, part their hair with a straight edge, and are a little on the "OCD side" generally go to Thomas with their problems. There is also a rougher bunch of guys in Engineering who are generally tatooed and a little more ill tempered (on the outside). If Thomas tried to step between them during a scuffle he'd get eaten alive but generally I am able to relate to them because I am from their side of the tracks. My guys can sometimes seem stubborn and abnoxious but if you know how to talk to them, man!- they are hard workers. They'll be up to their elbows in grease and have our equipment running faster than our more booksmart guys could even find a blue print. Get what I'm sayin?

If Carthon can come in here and relate to Larry maybe he can lead him into success again. Larry may be a pain in the butt now but what if all he needs is good leadership that believes in him. I understand that he's paid well to perform but Larry is still a man. We're a proud bunch, right? With a little inspiration maybe he will excel. He did run for 1700+ yards 3 years ago and he sure didn't put many miles on his legs last year. Also not his fault. The shotgun and pistol formations are NOT RB-friendly schemes.

With Cassle under center and Carthon on the sidelines.... who knows.

Were supposed to be arm chair GM's, Coaches and Coordinators, thats why were here. But I couldn't stand the thought of only getting a #4 pick for Tyler. There could be a QB controversy, say Cassel has a bad start, Chiefs start 0-3. I think this is where Haley is coming from when he said they will compete, he benched Arizonas first round franchise quarterback with a huge contract and put in Warner who they were paying peanuts. It's not a bad thing right now to have these two young qb's going strong and I do think they will involve Tyler in the offense one way or another. To me, Tyler falls around a late #2 or early #3. Pioli struck out in free agency, he has a ton of money he has to spend just to get to the cap minimum, I think he's got something cooking, maybe a big tade of players or picks or both.

Why trade a guy that the Chiefs are paying nothing for, who provides decent insurance? If Pioli learned anything last year it's that you had better have a reliable backup. Plus, I'm interested to see if Haley can incorporate Thigpen in any "wildcat" packages and use his athleticism. A 4th round pick might look nice, but I think Thigpen is worth whatever they would get for a 4th round pick, right now.

Anybody that believes that competition for the starting job crap is nuts. Thigpen was #2 QB as soon as Cassle was announced. I'd rather have a draft pick. more help for the defense or the OL. There will be better spread offense QB's in the later rounds anyway.

...and then Brokie Croyle is our backup.

I would hope he stays available. Too many suckers for the Missouri players. Chase Daniels will never be a starter in the NFL or get significant playing time. He played in a gimmick offense that was hard for college defenders to cover. He really wasn't all that great and is too short.

Chase is gonna be available via free agency with the way he's performed in the offseason.

I wish Tyler was still the starter, but since they madde the trade for Cassel, the best thing for Tyler AND the Chiefs is to trade him, and a 4th would be fine. No good ever comes from a QB controversy between 2 young QB's. The locker room already has strong Thigpen supporters in at least Bowe and Tony G. Since Cassel is the man, and Tyler will not be getting a shot, and further it would be bad if Tyler severely outplays Matt in camp, the best course is to ship Tyler out.

He's not tellin a fib here...It was reported on nfl,com and espn that he left wihout a contract. That is the only place he could find out anything about the Chiefs that isn't 2 days old so I believe him. Sad when the local guys hear it last.

And exactly how many Super Bowls did the Chiefs go to with Carl Peterson and Herm Edwards running things?

There is a need for a few veterans mixed in the fray for leadership and guidance for young players. Leaving without offers means they aren't that interested at this point. Free agency is far from over, hang in there.

Honestly there's not too many quality WRs left out there. In Bowe we have a Pro Bowler, but who do we put opposite of him? Laverneus Coles is interesting, as he does possess speed and is a proven commodity. Lance Moore really showed his abilities with the Saints this past season, when inserted into the starting line-up. I still think we may have something going (trade) for Boldin. He's known by our Staff, has insane skills, and is looking for a change of scenery.

Did I miss something? I didn't even see Bowe at the Pro Bowl. Saw TG and Waters. Hmmmm. Guess maybe he needs to work on catching the ball before he gets the official invite.

Nothing against Engram, but is he fast enough to be a deep threat? I feel like that is the real need for our WR group.

In any case, I am glad to see a WR visiting. We could use a solid compliment to Bowe and veteran leadership in the WR group would be a big plus.

Maybe there are a few more WR visits around the corner.

I think Bradley was impressive last year and hopefully Haley can get the best out of him. If Bowe can hang onto some balls this year that would help as well. I really liked what Thigpen ultimately ended up doing and now I feel we have some real talent to compete for the spot.I have a gut we are finally on our way up. Secure some D in the upcoming draft and we should have a winning season this year.You know damn well we should of won AT LEAST 4 of those games we threw away last season. So, what do you think will happen to Croyle ?

I agree jade, not too many guys are still any good at 36 at this position. Sometimes you can get an aging HOF'er who's still better than the average guy, but Jerry Rice doesn't come along every day.

I think Haley realizes that at 36years old Engram isn't going to be a compliment to Dwayne Bowe and thats the reason he didnt get a contract offer. However, am i against bringing in a vertern WR, no but Engram isnt the guy to help Bowe get out of two man coverage all the time. I really think he is leaning towards Crabtree even though Curry is a freak of nature. Fitzgerald and Boldin combo will always be in Haley's mind and thats why he will take Crabtree to compliment Bowe. However, i wouldnt mind seeing someone like Coles in a KC uniform as he is a veteran that still has speed and will be a deep threat mentoring Bowe and possibly Crabtree. But for Croyle i think he is 3rd on the depth chart or either cut pretty soon, thats to bad because i really liked the guy but being hurt doesnt help KC.

I understand your logic kreidjr - but I'd be disappointed if the Chiefs go with Crabtree with their the first pick.
The more I think about it - I think I'd rather KC trade down for a few picks and grab the best O-lineman on the board.
