The Chiefs will sift through many kickoff and punt return candidates as they hope to improve what was one of the NFL's worst return games. They will eventually look at Kevin Robinson, Will Franklin, Jamaal Charles, Jeff Webb, Maurice Price, Maurice Leggett, Rashad Barksdale and Dantrell Savage in either one job or both.
There's no doubt about the guy they'd like to be their next Tamarick Vanover or Dante Hall. And that's B.J. Sams, once one of the league's best returners and now trying to reclaim his career after injuries cut short each of his last two seasons with Baltimore.
Sams, who lost all but one game of last season with a knee injury, looks to be moving around well enough in camp. Preseason will be a better test.
"The speed if the game will be telling,'' special teams coach Mike Priefer said. "If he's anything like he used to be, he's going to be very tough to beat out.''
