The point is that Carl needs to go as well. I'm less concerned about the coach as I am about the GM. When the GM gets hired...he needs to be given a free hand to do what he thinks needs done. He shouldn't be saddled with Carl's failed coach. We will never get the best young GM available if he's restricted to keeping Edwards...a young talent wouldn't sign that contract.

Herm Edwards is under .500 in the playoffs so don't get on Marty's tail about playoffs when Herm is lucky to even sniff the playoffs. Marty didn't make Lin Elliott miss those field goals. Marty had guts in the Chargers playoff loss going for it on fourth down and his team let him down.

So he was damned for kicking field goals and damned for being aggressive. Look, I'd rather have Cowher in here and I think KC is still an attractive job for a coach but you would be insane if you think for one moment it wouldn't forward this franchise to bring Marty back in here. Someone mentioned them riding in like the Lone Ranger isnt feasible...why not? The Hunts have the money, both coaches have some history in KC, and they have a blue collar fan base that is craving winning football.

Even if Herm "were" a good coach (he's not, he's a snake oil salesman and a defensive backs coach masquerading as a head coach) he and Carl Peterson have burned too many bridges with the fans.

I was a fan that KNEW this was a rebuilding season. I looked for two things out of this young team. Heart and being better in week 12 than they were in week 3. This team plays up and down and not like a young hungry team. The defense- the staple of Gunther and Herm's resumes is atrocious and is LITTERED with Herm/Carl/Kuharich draft picks over the last three seasons.

Hali bust, DJ -mediocre, Dorsey (eh jury is out but needs more time in the weight room), Pollard (coverage issues and doesnt wrap up), Page (solid cover guy with below average tackling skills), Turk and Tank (league average at best), Croyle (fragile bust), Charles (speedy but fumbles--a LOT), the list goes on.

Who in the first and second year of Herm's draft just turns your head on this football team?

If you argue they are young fine, but by year three you have a pretty solid understanding of what they are.

Let's look at what Herm has done. He has inherited a 10-6 team that had a great offense and a porous defense. Yes, players on the line were aging, but something could have been done.

His first year the team he inherited nevertheless finished 9-7 and stumbled into the playoffs when we got the tiebreaker. The defense was marginally better but all Herm managed to do was gut the offense. In the playoff against Indy, we did not even get a first down until about the 4th Quarter. Had Vermeil stayed, it is not hard to believe that the team would have scored 20+ points and won. This was the exact same offensive personnel that was #1 in offense and Herm made them pathetic. The only difference was that he promoted an offense line coach to be a head coach. They have no concept of offense except running. Look at the Raiders elevating Joe Bugle and Tom Kable to head coach. These two O-line coaches showed just how good they were too.

Next year, he took the team to 4-12. Horrible.

Now we will be lucky to finish 4-12.

Don't give me the crap about rebuilding. Miami is rebuilding. Atlanta is rebuilding. The Jets are rebuilding. All were as bad or worse than us last year. All of these three teams look to secure a PLAYOFF spot this year. The difference? Miami's players aren't really better than ours, nor Atlanta. The difference is that they peppered in veterans into their teams and did not just go with rookies alone. They wanted to win right away, and they did.

Herm is a defensive expert. It is clear he does not understand offense, or he would have sacked Solari sooner. We give him Derek Johnson, Donnie Edwards, a pair of good safeties, some decent aging corners and the best DE in football. We trade away the DE and now we have a horrid defense -- Herm's specialty. It's like hiring a specialist in roof repair and her tears up the roof and it is leaking and he says "gee, I hired some kids to do it." Isn't a coach, like a specialist, supposed to supervise the apprentices?

He has failed. Our offensive success was due to Chan waking up and realizing that you need to design an offense around the strengths you have, rather than try and force a system on players not equipped for it. Herm had nothing to do with that. Our defense is horrid statistically. We make any QB look like a Pro Bowl candidate (except JeMarcus Russell, who nobody can make look good).

If you would have picked up a KC phone directory and selected a random name, you could have found a head coach that would have likely done better with the personnel they were given. The team has talent. Don't get me wrong. But, we don't win. When we are embarrassed in a game, Herm claims to "not know" what went wrong. I'm sorry, but a head coach is paid to know.

The Chargers have even more talent and they are playing horribly. It is either because God is punishing them ... or its bad coaching. Norv definitely should get the ax. He's a nice guy but has never been able to produce a strong team in all the cities he has coached.

Herm has inherited teams in NY and here that were good (not great) and managed to eek them into the playoffs once or twice before completely destroying the team. It is hard for me to see why this man should keep his job for another attempt to try and figure out how to coach a team to win.

The buck stops with Herm. Accountability is the watchword. He must go, and join Lewis and Turner in being television commentators for a couple of years until a different owner thinks they are better than they are.

- Vermeil 'could not' even 'stumble' his way into the playoffs the year before Herm 'did' -Vermeil couldn't even do it his last TWO YEARS running - yet Edwards did in his very first season. In fact, via a five year plan of Vermeil's, D_ick 'stumbled' so poorly the Chiefs made the playoffs just once, in his 3rd year- then Vermeil reverted to form and KC missed the playoffs again for 2 more years running. So Vermeil got 5 years & managed to stumble into the playoffs once - one time - uno. Then he quit, wasn't fired.

So using your (il)logic we should fire Herm in year 3 - two years after he made playoffs year 1 his - and using your same measure KC should've fired Vermeil aft year 1 his since he never made it to the playoffs at all until his 3rd season- yet he managed to stay in KC until he completed 2 more playoff-less years -that about cover it?

I like your faint praise for Herm too: EX: -"no accountability" and Herm "eeked" his way into several playoffs in his career, KC and NY...you throw them compliments around like manhole covers.

- and MIA was in year 1 its rebuild LAST YEAR-just like the Chiefs are THIS YEAR... get it? Got it? Good.

And of course the fact a Jon Gruden took the former coaches Tony Dungy & Herm Edwards TB Buccaneers to the Superbowl had 'nothing' to do with Herm & Tony- though of course it did have something to do with it when Herm ('coattailed', your inference) off Vermeil's -and I use the term loosely - "success?" here?

Hank Stram - the greatest coach in KC Chiefs history- had these records his first 5 years:

8-6 in '60; 6-8 '61; 11-3 '62; 5-7-2 '63; 7-7 '64. Stram went to the playoffs ONCE - one time in his first 5 seasons. They should have fired him too, huh KCDC.

Vince Lombardi- ever heard of him? - he was a former offensive lineman & was the offensive coordinator for the NY Giants before becoming the greatest Head Coach in NFL history with - the GB Packers.

Couldn't have said this better. People who argue with this logic are homers that refuse to see the truth.

Rebuilding teams don't usually make the playoffs...and those that do are the exception. However, rebuilding teams that are competently coached usually go anywhere from 6-10 to 9-7. Teams that win 2 or 3 games are either:

1. Teams that have been losing for years that are just now turning the corner or;

2. Teams that are being coached poorly.

Any given Sunday...a good coach will win at least 6 games during a rebuild...no matter how many rookies are playing.

I DO NOT want Marty back...but let's be honest, if he were coaching this team, it would be no worse than 7-9.

He's exactly right. Half the league is rebuilding. There is constant turn-over in the NFL. Most teams are equally talented and are able to produce even in their down (rebuilding) years. Rebuilding or not, we're looking at a trend: 9-7, 4-12, and now a potential 2-14? I don't care who you are or what you're doing, that is a record of failure.
