What now for Thigpen?

I don't think Croyle will last past this season. No one can play the professional game if he can't stay healthy. But we'll get through this, Chiefs fans. No matter how bad this season gets, focus on two words...First Pick. Tim Tebow, anyone?

IF we are truely building for the future what wrong does it do to let Tyler Thigpen sit on the bench, carry a clip board, work his butt off for a few years then lets see what he could do? With the whole Brett Farve saga this summer it brought a new perspective to bringing along a young quarterback. Rogers sat behind Farve and learned how to be a NFL QB. I am not saying that we have anyone of Farve stature on our team but we do have a good QB coach in Dick Curl and Huard if anything is the ultimate professional. I think if anything Thigpen can sit and learn how to prepare for games and learn to be a QB in this league. Then we could possibly evaluate him better. I think that drafting a QB and sitting him for a year or two will become a trend in this league because it has a better success ratio than just throwing these young guys to the wolves. I will give you a few examples:

Rogers behind Farve
Palmer behind Kitna
Young behind Montana
Cutler behind Plumber
Rivers behind Brees
Brady behind Bledsoe

I am sure there are more but these are ones that pop out in my mind. Lets look at what happens when you just throw them into the mix:

David Carr
Alex Smith
Ryan Fing Leaf
Tim Couch

Every once in awhile you get those that have that "IT" quality like John Elway, Peyton Manning, Dan Marino, but there is a reason why those kind of guys come around very rarely because the are rare individuals.

Just my thoughts. I am not saying that Thigpen is the answer but if you think that he has a chance why not do it the right way?

It's possible that Herm only benched Thigpen because his veteran players are starting to lose confidence in Herm's judgement. Take this for example. NFL network reported today that Tony G said that he was not against going to the front office and demand a trade if the Chiefs did not get better. This says to me that the locker room is starting to fall apart and ALL the veterans close to the end of their career (and LJ) want out of KC.
Sure its nice to shake things up a bit and see what some young players can do on the football team but when you have your franchise player, the very face of the KC Chiefs, threatening to demand a trade... something has gone wrong. Everything in moderation Herm, too much of a good thing can be bad for you.
Herm was too hard headed to sign seasoned free agent veterans because he says they are not in his plan and signing one of them would be like betraying his plan and break his word to his players.
It looks like your players don't really care about your word Herm, they just want to win games. This is Herm's chance to REALLY start over so expect Carl and Herm to show Tony G the door and lose more season ticket holders.

isn't is amazing how the dolphins rebuilding program is already ahead of the chiefs, after about six months of it, compared to two years of herm and carl? the dolphins are a better team under sparano and parcells ... compared to edwards and peterson .. simply said.

rebuilding doesn't take another five year plan herm and carl. miami has proven it.

I guess the Ingle Martin signing may be an indication what to expect. The words Herm used when they introduced him were similar to what he said about Thigpen:

"Good guy. Has potential. We liked him. Watched him quite a while."

Thigpen blew his chance to build a future. Guess that was it as soon as Croyle returns.
