Croyle has separated shoulder

Chiefs quarterback Brodie Croyle suffered a separated right throwing shoulder in Sunday's 17-10 loss to New England.

Herm Edwards wouldn't speculate on how long the third-year passer would be out. Croyle missed most of the second half Sunday; veteran Damon Huard relieved Croyle.

Croyle's shoulder was heavily taped and iced, and his arm was in a sling Sunday afternoon. He didn't speak to reporters before leaving the locker room.

Croyle wouldn't answer questions from The Star when asked in a stadium walkway Sunday, saying only: "I've felt better."

Give a first rounder and an optional pick for him. Sign Simms. Release Huard and Croyle.

The play calling was very basic. I couldn't believe haw many times they tried to force lj up the gut against those big d-tackles. When they swept to the left or right he got his biggest runs. I also couldn't believe there was no verticle game except for the bomb to darling. Dump passes screens and run it up the gut are not going to get us many wins. Thigpen is not the answer either. Herm needs a legit vet right now. dante has experience and if his knee is better he can run out of the pocket and get soemthing done. The right side of our line is still in shambles. They were coming off that side all day yesterday. D-mac is not a good right tackle. We still have a lot of work to do. It was nice to be in it til the end. I hope we kick the Raiders in their teeth. I hate that team.

Retired? Sure, just like Brett Favre is retired. Peterson, make this call. I'd rather have Byron Leftwich, but the Steelers didn't let him go, So make the call, Carl. Bring in Daunte.

Brody is done, and I don't mean just because of an injury. When he's healthy again, he's still done. Happy feet and playing scared don't cut it in the NFL. Culpepper may not get us anything more than 5 wins this year, but that's four more than we'll get with Huard.

Dante Doesn't Make Sense

If we're rebuilding for the future, what sense would it bring to bring in Dante Culpepper? We've got a kid on the team that has some potential in Tyler Thigpen. I'm not that he's the answer or anything, but based on our situation, why waste any time with any aging veteran like Culpepper or worse, Damon Huard? Find out now if Thigpen has any future, and if the answer is yes, then great; if no, then we know our biggest need for next years draft. We have to commit to our plan to build for the future. A QB that has no chance to lead us for the next several years makes no sense at this point. JMac

I feel the same way

I used to hope that Brodie would step up and show something, but unfortunately I no longer see that happening. We have to find someone to salvage this season (yes I said salvage even though we had only one game.) I do not know what other people saw in that crap, but I think it was much of the same: a passing game that was bad and would have been unbearable without having Tony G to bail us out. I saw an O-line that opened up only one hole for Larry Johnson. I did see a decent defense, but no better than last year. Return woes plague us, as well as penalties. Throw in the interception and almost every single first down coming only after a third down conversion, and we have a hell of a team. I am sure this team will be better than last year...but no hope of making the play offs. Any win will be a nail biter, and I fear so will every loss. Brodie is just not the future of the Chiefs; I absolutely hate to say that. But what I hate even more is seeing L.J. collapsing to endless run defenses because not a single team is scared of the Chiefs passing game.

I can't believe someone would say that Huard is the only one to lead this team. He couldn't lead a bus full of blue hairs to a Florida buffet. If we're going young, give Thigpen a shot. At least we'll be able to see if he could be a future QB option for us. Face it, we're not going to the playoffs this year, so why waste any of it on an aging career back-up.

many of us chiefs fans have known this for awhile now ... brodie croyle could be a decent backup QB in this league, but he's certainly not a starter - he's way too injury prone. we saw this twice last year, it's been his history, so what's to change?? you build a team around him, you are a fool and take great risk. great kid, gorgeous wife, but durable, i don't think so.

huard is this team's best chance at winning and moving along the rest of these young kids, they've got the QB in there now who should be in there, unfortunately when croyle returns in a month or so stubborn herm will throw him right back in there. why is is so painfully obvious to everyone BUT the coaches that croyle is not the direction to go?!?!? makes you wonder about their ability to judge talent and how prideful they are - at the expense of the chiefs organization and fans.

if i'm the chiefs scouting department, i'm taking an awful close look at the college QBs expected to come out next year, especially since the next year's free agent crop of QBs is looking pretty thin.

the rest of the team looks like it might just be making progess ... can we FINALLY develop a QB in the next few years!??!?

if croyle is out for weeks, they aren't going with just huard and thigpen are they??!!? what veteran qb do they sign??? why haven't they looked at chris simms yet? sounds like the patriots are already all over him, bringing him in tomorrow. not that he's the answer, but isn't chris simms worth a look? or is herm too stubborn for that?

Herm's QB jinx continues

First it was the double whammy of losing both starting Jet QBs in Week 1 a few years back. Then Green went down in Week 1 of 2006. Now Croyle in Week 1 of 08. Gotta wonder about that track record of his.....

As for Croyle, well -- I more than anyone wanted to see Croyle prove his doubters wrong. But he just seems way too fragile to be in the NFL. Sad, really sad.

Who knows...maybe with just a little extra protection, Huard will regain his touch from 06 and lead the team onward. His first series in the Pats game looked promising, so we;ll have to wait and see, I guess....
