Nick Novak will be the Chiefs kicker when they open the regular season Sept. 7 at New England.
The Chiefs informed Novak today and told rookie Connor Barth that they would be placing him on waivers, ending the camp-long battle between the two players.
Both kickers made 86 percent of their field goals during training camp and were two of three in the preseason.
The Chiefs apparently decided to go with the more experienced Novak, who has kicked in 16 NFL games, making 65 percent of his field goals for Washington and Arizona.
More details in Saturday's Kansas City Star.

I really think, based on the Medlock fiasco last year, we couldn't afford to have a rookie kicker get out of the gate slow again this year. Novak is probably no great shakes either, but the "fans" can'tplay the rookie card with him, at least.
And, please, for the love of God...if I read another "fan" complain about this going against the youth movement. Again, my belief is a team can be young but where they should NOT be young is their placekicker.
