Page: NFL acknowledged mistake

Safety Jarrad Page said the NFL sent the Chiefs a letter acknowledging a mistake was made when Page was penalized for unnecessary roughness in last week’s loss to the Giants.

Page broke up a pass over the middle for wide receiver Steve Smith but was penalized for making helmet to helmet contact with Smith. Replays showed Page actually used his shoulder to hit Smith in the chest.

The Giants went on to score on a touchdown pass to Smith on the next play to take a 14-3 lead. They went on to win 27-16.

Chiefs look at a wrestler

As proof they are making an honest effort to find better offensive linemen, the Chiefs worked out a former All-American college wrestler who didn't play football at Kent State or even in high school, for that matter.

He is Jermail Porter, who had a brief trial in camp this year with the Patriots. There are no indications the Chiefs will sign Porter any time soon, but it's possible he could wind up as an off-season developmental project.

Revisionist history: Did the Jared Allen trade doom the Chiefs?

So Jared Allen had a pretty solid game Monday night against the Packers. Not sure if you saw it, but Allen had 4 1/2 sacks, a safety and a forced fumble. Yep, pretty solid.

I was watching. I kept watching as Allen exploited Green Bay's awful offensive line and took advantage of a quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, who's still clearly green and uncomfortable when his protection breaks down. A good pass rusher takes advantage of an opponent's weaknesses, and time after time, Allen kept doing that strange little dance he does, where he pretends to stir a salad and then extends his arms.

Former Kansas City LB Zach Thomas files grievance against Chiefs

Former Chiefs linebacker Zach Thomas, the longtime former Miami great, has reportedly filed a grievance against the Chiefs for releasing him without injury pay.

According to an ESPN report, Thomas is trying to recoup his $1 million salary because, the report states, he had a concussion when the Chiefs released him. Thomas, who was named to seven Pro Bowls while with the Dolphins, missed all but five days of training camp with the Chiefs. He had been expected to be a starting inside linebacker for Kansas City.

First quarter summary: Giants 7, Chiefs 3

NY _ Steve Smith 3 pass from Eli Manning (Lawrence Tynes kick); 5 plays, 16 yards, 2:04 drive time, 12:44 remaining.

KC _ FG Ryan Succop 34; 6 plays, 20 yards, 2:35 drive time, 4:58 remaining.

The game kicked off and, again, Arrowhead Stadium had some sections in the upper and clubs levels with large areas of open seats. The owners of those seats must have known something because on the field, Jamaal Charles fumbled the opening kickoff and the Giants recovered at the Kansas City 16. Five plays later, New York led 7-0. The big play on the drive was Manning’s six-yard pass to Smith on third and 5 to the KC 5 . . . The Chiefs ran plays from the wildcat formation on their first two plays. Larry Johnson gained two yards on first down and handed to Jamaal Charles for no gain on second down. Matt Cassel took the snap from shotgun formation on third down, was chased from the pocket and then hit and fumbled. Cassel recovered but the Chiefs punted . . . The Chiefs got the ball back when Tanmba Hali sacked Manning and knocked the ball loose. Glenn Dorsey recovered at the New York 36. Later, on third down from the 16, Bobby Engram had a step on linebacker Michael Boley in the end zone but Cassel’s pass didn’t have enough air underneath and hit Boley in the back of the head. The Chiefs had to settle for the field goal . . . Mario Manningham beat Brandon Flowers on a deep pattern for 43 yards to the KC 16. Flowers got it back two plays later when Manningham dropped a pass and deflected it to Flowers for an interception. The Chiefs took over at their 20. They were forced to punt after running three plays.
