Haley explains the locker room signs, sort of

It's a good thing Larry Johnson sent out those tweets questioning Todd Haley's coaching credentials. They've given context and meaning to the signs posted outside the Chiefs locker room suggesting, among other things, that "losers assemble in small groups and complain about the coaches and other players.''

Haley, asked about the signs for the first time on Thursday, said it was a coincidence the signs were placed shortly after Johnson was suspended because of his now-infamous tweets. The signs, Haley said, have been planned for some time.

Page is officially done

The Chiefs put Jarrad Page on injured reserve today, ending his season. Page has a calf injury that apparently was going to keep him out for several weeks.

We'll see how Jon McGraw is when the Chiefs practice later today. The Chiefs will also have him listed on their injury report when it's issued after practice is over.

The Chiefs re-signed Travis Daniels, who went to camp with them this year but was released before the start of the regular season. Daniels is a cornerback, but could provide safety help for this week's game in Jacksonville.

Chiefs claim WR Chris Chambers and some roster stuff

The Chiefs added a wide receiver Tuesday, after they were awarded former San Diego wideout Chris Chambers after putting in a waiver claim.

Chambers was waived Monday after two-plus seasons with the Chargers. He spent his first seven seasons with Miami.

Chambers, who was named to the 2005 Pro Bowl, had just nine catches in seven games with San Diego.

It doesn't hurt the Chiefs to bring him in, and there's a chance he has something left. But Chambers' age and that San Diego just gave up on him could mean that his best years are far behind him.

Johnson will lose one check

Larry Johnson won’t be back any sooner, but now a settlement is reportedly in place to withhold only one week’s pay from the Chiefs running back.

Johnson and the Chiefs reached an agreement Saturday in which the embattled Kansas City running back will remain suspended for two weeks but will be paid for one of those weeks.

Johnson’s team suspension had called for him to miss two weeks’ pay, until the punishment expires Nov. 9. After his suspension ends, Johnson could be subject to additional punishment after he called out coach Todd Haley last Sunday on his Twitter account, then publicly used two gay slurs in less than 24 hours.

Larry Johnson, Chiefs working on 'settlement'

Larry Johnson and the Chiefs are working on a settlement to decide the running back's future, Johnson's agent, Peter Schaffer, told The Star in an e-mail Thursday.

Asked whether that settlement would involve a separation from the team, Schaffer said: "Not necessarily."

Schaffer said Johnson's side is working on an appeal of the two-week suspension the team handed down Wednesday for detrimental conduct. Schaffer said Wednesday night that he hoped an appeal would be filed early Thursday, and it's possible that settlement talks could delay that appeal.

Chiefs suspend Larry Johnson

The Chiefs have suspended running back Larry Johnson for two weeks, effectively immediately. The punishment is for conduct detrimental to the team.

Johnson is forbidden to be at team headquarters or participate in team activities before Nov. 9, the day after the Chiefs play at Jacksonville.

The Chiefs told Johnson on Tuesday to stay away from the team's practice facility, but that was not a suspension.

LJ gets back to tweeting, but this time with more humility

Larry Johnson, the embattled Chiefs running back, resumed activity tonight on his Twitter page. On Sunday night, he took several digs at coach Todd Haley and then lashed out at several of his Twitter followers, once using a gay slur that preceded his slur Monday morning in the Chiefs locker room.

Johnson was asked by the team Tuesday to stay away from Chiefs headquarters and to not participate in team activities. Investigations are ongoing by the team and the NFL, and Johnson's future remains uncertain. Johnson released an apologetic statement Tuesday through his agent, Peter Schaffer.

Marty on LJ: Who would want him in the locker room?

Former Chiefs coach Marty Schottenheimer said he would not be surprised to see the Chiefs run Larry Johnson "right out of town."

Speaking on his SIRIUS NFL Radio show today, Schottenheimer said of Johnson, who is being held out of team activities after his use of homophobic slurs the last two days:

"Maybe he thinks that he can force his way out (of Kansas City). Let me ask you this, of the other 31 teams in the National Football League, who in the world is going to bring him into their locker room?

Today's apology to the Chiefs, fans and the Kansas City community was the not the first time Chiefs running back Larry Johnson issued an apology for his previous transgressions.

Larry Johnson asked by team to not participate in Chiefs activities

Chiefs running back Larry Johnson has been asked to stay away from team activities, and he is not at team headquarters today as Kansas City returns to practice.

It is not a suspension but is similar to the punishment Johnson faced after last year's bye week, when the Chiefs benched him after a series of arrests.

A team statement stated that the Chiefs are "continuing to investigate the alleged comments made by Larry Johnson. Until that review is complete, the Chiefs have instructed Larry to refrain from practicing with the Chiefs or participating in other team activities."
